Sierra Upgrade [PLEASE READ]

We are planning to upgrade Sierra to the latest release the night of February 26, 2018. We will start the upgrade after libraries have closed to avoid any outages.

This upgrade is intended to get the server on the latest release. This is the upgrade that we were going to beta test. However there were a couple of bugs that prevented our participation. Those have since been fixed in this general release. We are most interested in the feature regarding filling holds with local items to resolve our needless transits issue.

Clearing the jarcache
With Sierra upgrades the jarcache folder will need to be updated as well. The steps to clear this out can be found HERE, and if you are interested in a course about clearing the jarcache click HERE.

Frontline circ staff
  • Make sure you know who is responsible for clearing the jarcache either before closing on February 26th or before opening on February 27th.
  • Make sure to only bring up one Sierra session at a time the morning of the 27th. Allow all jarfiles to download and Sierra to fully log in before starting the application on the next computer. This will ensure that the Sierra server doesn’t get overloaded by too many requests at opening.

Catalogers or someone who runs Sierra on their own work computer
You will likely be responsible for clearing the jarcache on your computer, but check with your manager to make sure they don’t already have plans to do this for you.

We will send out a reminder closer to the 26th. In the meantime if you have any questions please let us know.
